Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to reintroduce jelly sneakers to you. If you keep an eye on the endless resurgence of 90s trends, this is yet another polarizing movement set to make a big comeback this year. Those who grew up in this decade may recall days of running around the playground in a slimy, see-through pair. But the playful shoe seems to have grown up now, thanks to stylish variations that make for cool pairings with suits and spring dresses.

Jonathan Anderson showed us how it was best, sending models down the runway in draped dresses and translucent sneakers for Loewe’s Spring 2022 presentation. Some of these catwalk looks have crept into the pages of vogue; for our February issue cover story, Alex Harrington dressed Hoyeon Jung in not one or two but three pairs of Loewe jelly trainers.

Loewe isn’t the only catwalk designer championing the see-through trend. Whether it’s a PVC finish or a sheer mesh overlay, the translucent takeover continues with Maison Margiela’s crystalline rendition and Dior’s perfectly transparent sneakers. And, of course, many sports brands, like Nike and Adidas, are also welcoming the return of the transparent sneaker.

Now’s the perfect time to start testing out all of these fun spring trends, starting with one of the translucent sneakers below.
