Adidas is launching the latest version of its Adizero line of running shoes with the announcement that the Adios Pro 3 will be released in the United States on June 23rd. This is a shoe that was developed in collaboration with the world’s fastest road runners to create a durable, long-distance sneaker. which aims to make this third generation shoe the best iteration yet. So Muscle & Fitness took a deep dive into the Adidas Pro 3 to find out what makes them better than previous versions and to see if there are any serious alternatives on the market right now.
What is the Adidas Pro range?
The original Adizero Adios Pro hit the headlines in 2020 when Peres Jepchirchir wore the sneakers to break a half marathon world record. The range was designed to help runners who were looking to take their performance to the next level and chase records. The Pros were Adidas’ first carbon fiber running shoe and received a redesign when the Pro 2 was launched. These second generation shoes presented athletes with a more compact fiber plate in the heel and carbon-infused headlight “Energyrods”, positioned in the midsole. With weight being an important consideration for racers, the Pro 2s weighed 7.5 ounces while the original Pros weighed 8.3 ounces. The Pro shoe family has won the most victories in major world marathons in 2021.
So, what’s new in the Adidas Pro 3?
While the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3 weigh 7.6 ounces, the dual-density “Lightstrike Pro” midsole provides excellent energy return, compensating for the slightly heavier load. The updated Carbon Fiber 2.0 Energyrods are no longer separate and work as a single unit, preventing the rods from working against each other.
We’ve also thought about making the Adidas Pro 3 more comfortable, and the heel collar provides a secure grip so the shoes don’t shift while you get your work done. The Lightstrike Pro foam aims to provide a more bouncy experience and impressively the Adidas Pro 3 is also more environmentally friendly. Made in part from recycled materials, Adidas says its mission is to phase out the use of virgin polyester to help end plastic waste.
“It’s an honor to step into and train with the new Adizero shoe,” says Amanal Petros, who is an Adidas athlete and record-breaking marathon runner from Germany. “We have the privilege of knowing firsthand how efficient the Adizero can be in terms of time and performance, so it was exciting to
try the Adizero Adios Pro 3. I really felt the speed and traction of this model. Hopefully I can continue pushing my performance levels while continuing to train and race in the Adizero Adios Pro 3.”
How does the Pro 3 compare to other running shoes?
There are a lot of carbon fiber sneakers on the market these days, with brands like Asics getting great results with their “Metaspeed Sky” line (check out our interview with Beth Potter). Nike’s “Air Zoom Alphafly” also leads the pack when it comes to performance, but given the success athletes are having with the Pros and their attractive $220 price tag, these bad boys might be leading the need for speed. .
The Adidas Adizero Pro 3 will be available from June 23, with a flashy Core Black/Yellow colorway.
