A photo of a broken and battered pair of Balenciaga sneakers amused tweeps after the luxury brand announced its questionable new shoe line.
The French design house has been slammed by social media users after promoting its ‘completely destroyed’ new shoe online.
BALENCIAGA SNEAKERS ARE SOLD FOR R30k
This week, Balenciaga unveiled its latest look in footwear trends – the “extremely worn” and “distressed” version of its Paris Sneaker.
According to the fashion house, only 100 pairs of exclusive sneakers will be available for purchase for $1,850 (almost R30,000).
But for the small fortune, don’t expect anything flashy.
The sneakers in question appeared to have been marinated in mud, torn apart by a pack of wild dogs and scribbled on by a toddler armed with a permanent marker.
On Balenciaga’s official website, less “distressed” sneakers are on sale, priced from $495 to $625, but still with dirt and the “worn” aesthetic.
TWEEPS LAUGH AT ‘THE AUDACITY’
But while Balenciaga – under creative director Demna Gvasalia – expected to make a statement with the sneaker, social media users found it amusing.
@totalydanii: “Homelessness is an aesthetic now?
@osamachabbi: “I’m so sorry but this latest Balenciaga sneaker release is giving me new viral strain vibes”
@MessiahMajid: “Why is poverty now an aesthetic for the rich?”
@msixelaa_: “I think Balenciaga is running a social experiment to see how much bullshit they can release and society eats it up”
