Grammy nominee, Mercury Prize and BRIT Award winning artist Arlo Parks shared their first release of 2022, releasing a new standalone single “Softly.” The track arrives along a Zhang and knight directed video, which features Arlo performing the track in a perfect location that unfolds layer by layer, with each step becoming more surreal and sparse.
The single follows her critically acclaimed and fan-loved 2021 album, ‘Collapsed In Sunbeams’, which she will tour Australia in August, performing in Naarm (Melbourne), Meanjin (Brisbane ) and Eora (Sydney) in August.
Sonically, the track reflects an instrumental inspired by upbeat pop, juxtaposed by Arlo’s intense lyrics about a bubbly relationship. It depicts this stage of a relationship where each action, each word, each signal hangs by a thread, before an inevitable separation of paths.
Arlo shares of the single, “‘Softly’ is a song about longing, about the fragility you feel in the final days of a relationship while you’re still hopelessly in love.
“The song is about what it feels like to prepare before a breakup hits and reminiscing about the days when everything seemed bright.”
