Trends fade, but two new pairs of sneakers prove that San Antonio style is forever. A pair of Nike Blazers and Adidas Top Ten shoes are like a block party in San Antonio and everyone is invited. Hispanic Elvis, mariachis, brilliant folk ballet dancers, the UTSA Roadrunners, local artists, and more. Dimas Martinez is the proud San Antonio designer behind the shoes.

Martinez is known for creating San Antonio-centric artwork, mostly on clothing and footwear, but his latest pieces are for a cause close to home. KRW, a law firm with an office in San Antonio, tapped Martinez to design two pairs of shoes for a raffle the group is sponsoring. Martinez says her son was diagnosed as Zayn on the autism spectrum a few years ago. Martinez pitched the idea of ​​donating proceeds to the Autism Treatment Center for Autism Awareness Month. The law firm was there.

The shoes will be raffled off at the Autism Treatment Center, located at 15911 Nacogdoches Road, on March 31. Each entry costs $10. Those interested in winning the shoes can enter the draw as much as they want.

The Nike Blazers (women’s size 8) are a Fiesta fit. Hispanic Elvis, beloved star of downtown San Antonio, makes an appearance with the Market Square scene he reigns over. The shoes also feature multicolored roses, pops of concha patterns and serape prints.

The second pair (men’s size 11.5) pays homage to fellow local Martinez designers and champion football team UTSA. Martinez painted a small portrait of muralist Paul Garson. In art, Garson creates his St. Mary’s Street Art Initiative mural. Martinez also incorporated orange and blue feathers on the sides of the shoes with a “Birds Up” speech bubble to highlight the historic Roadrunners season.

“The Hispanic Elvis is definitely an icon here, he’s free-spirited,” Martinez said. “He’s just a true testament to do what you want to do, wholeheartedly and don’t care what other people say – whatever makes you happy, do it. That’s what we’re after. all.”



Martinez, who is a proud product of the Westside, is thrilled to see San Antonio’s art scene bringing fashion into the fold. He points out that Spurs’ release of the Fiesta City Edition shirts sparked a new wave of inspiration for artists to launch from.

“You see it everywhere. The muralists are killing it, everyone is killing it right now,” he says. “It just opened another window for creators.”

Although the shoes will find a new home by the end of the month, Martinez says he’s open to future commissions and projects, especially if it gives him the chance to represent his city.

“I love San Antonio, it’s my place. I’m not going anywhere,” he says. “I’m going to do everything I can and get to as many events where I get the chance to just shout San Antonio, 210, I’m in it.”
