Three hundred pairs of shoes were stolen from Skóbúð Selfoss, reports Vísir.
The thief or thieves made a hole behind the building to get inside. All shoes were taken out of the boxes before leaving the store.
“It’s horrible. About three hundred pairs of shoes were stolen here, mostly sports shoes and running shoes, lots of Nike, Brooks and Ecco and a few heels, just a bit of everything,” says Birna Björnsdóttir, store manager.
Birna says employees were very upset when they came to work after the burglary.
“It was just a shock. Everything was upside down here and had been thrown off the shelves. It’s the only place that doesn’t have an alarm system in the building, but we got it today, well sure,” adds Birna.
“I would have sold them for sure, but it is difficult to put these kind of shoes on the Icelandic market, so I don’t know if they are sold elsewhere, all the boxes have been left, for example, shoe boxes,” says Birna when asked what one would hypothetically do with 300 pairs of shoes, adding that she thinks the total value of the loot is around 3-4 million ISK She also says that the store is insured for damage.
South Iceland Police are investigating the case.
