A mum-of-two has used an everyday household item to transform dirty white sneakers – leaving them sparkling clean.

Carolina McCauley from Perth has managed to restore a pair of dirty shoes to their former glory with a quick and easy solution of toothpaste and an old toothbrush.

Toothpaste, preferably labeled “whitening,” works well for cleaning white sneakers because it can remove stains, just like it does on your teeth.

“Try this hack to clean white sneakers,” Carolina said in a TikTok Video.

“Using toothpaste and a cleaning brush, scrub the sneakers from top to bottom.”

Using a damp cloth, she wipes excess toothpaste from the sneakers, making them look brand new.

“The results are amazing,” she said.

Her video has been viewed over 34,000 times and many have said they can’t wait to try the cleansing method.

Those who tried the toothpaste cleaning trick confirmed “it works”.

“Totally, 100%. I also use toothpaste. Also helps clean jewelry,” one wrote.

Another added: “My mum taught us to do this many years ago.”

To properly clean the fabric part of the shoes, one woman suggested using baking soda.

“Baking soda works wonders…and don’t use bleach…bleach will only make the fabric weak and yellowish,” she said.

Meanwhile, others shared different products they use to transform their dirty sneakers.

“Magic eraser works great too,” one wrote.

Another said: “I use baby wipes – great. Works the same as magic eraser.

While one added: ‘Throw them in a washing machine with a bunch of white towels and the towels will scrub the shoes.’
