Back in April Liam Gallagher teased an upcoming Adidas Spzl sneaker. The all-new LG2 SPZL premiered (on Gallagher’s feet) at an intimate concert held at King George’s Hall in Blackburn, famous for hosting the Beatles, David Bowie, Queen, the Rolling Stones and Blondie.
The trainers are a revamp of Adidas’ Barrington Smash design, the low-profile, round-toe shoe that was launched in 1974 to be worn by Irish squash player and six-time British Open winner Jonah Barrington. The shoes are a natural successor to Gallagher’s original adidas Spezial collab from 2019 (when he took on the Padiham LG), but he wanted to design a shoe suitable for all occasions. The OG Barrington sneaker was characterized by its blue and red three-striped exterior, grippy gum sole, suede detailing on the toe bed, and thin, flexible calfskin construction, but for its own version of the sneaker, Gallagher opted for a minimalist ivory colourway with white laces and gray Three Stripes on the outside. A champagne supernova, some would say.
Meanwhile, adidas Originals’ classic Bluebird pantone also makes a return to the tongue with an instantly recognizable “Endorsed by Liam Gallagher” graphic. Each pair then comes with custom packaging, a box sticker referencing the original 2019 LG. SPZL version that also pays homage to vintage adidas boxes and a “Liam Gallagher-approved” hang tag. Elsewhere the Adidas Special The Mod Trefoil logo is printed on the right heel.
Adidas has revealed that the sneakers, which die-hard Gallagher and Spzl fans (us included) have been eagerly awaiting for almost three months, will go on sale next week. The limited-edition sneakers will be available on the Adidas Confirmed app, as well as at select Adidas retailers, on July 22.
