Custom cleats worn and signed by a dozen major league players are auctioned off with proceeds going to minor leaguers.

MeiGray Auctions has partnered with More Than Baseball, a non-profit organization that works on behalf of athletes who have yet to make it to the major leagues.

Among the veteran players who donated cleats to the auction are Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove, former Brewers MVP Christian Yelich and Red Sox infielder Enrique Hernandez. Two pairs of shoes worn by Jazz Chisholm and another pair worn by Ke’Bryan Hayes during their rookie seasons are also among the lots that should be given special attention.

All cleats were worn by players between July and September in the 2021 season. All but one pair are game worn and all are autographed.

Stadium Custom Kicks designed the shoes, many of which carry a promotional message or a colorful design dedicated to certain charities.

The minimum bid for each pair is $200.

More Than Baseball offers resources for players, including career services, financial counseling, released player support, education, and scholarships.

“Currently, the average Minor League Baseball player earns less than the federal minimum wage, but must find and pay for his own housing, and receives no financial or logistical support for his nutrition and equipment needs,” they wrote. declared. “Furthermore, since 90% of minor league baseball players don’t make it to the major leagues, most never receive even minimal support after their playing career ends.”

The auction will last three weeks.
