If you asked the college version of me if I would ever become a runner, I would laugh at the thought. Now I run four to five days a week, doing five miles a day. Running is an important part of my life – it grounds me, forces me to breathe fresh air, and ultimately keeps me in shape (all while giving me killer calf muscles). For these reasons, running is my main form of exercise, but I would be naive not to recognize how hard it can be on your body. I’ve had severe leg pain from running with poor form, and I’ve also had foot pain from shoes with insufficient support. Luckily, none of these factors are a problem with the Puma Deviate NITRO 2 Running Sneakers ($160). The trainers help my form, have great arch support and have enough grip to keep me stable in wet conditions.
What I love about the Puma Deviate NITRO 2 running sneakers
I’ve owned these sneakers for over a month and it took me a few runs to fall in love with them. The shoes have a thick layer of cushioning that propels you forward and helps you run faster with a smooth ride, and their carbon plate helps with support. As a result, I was in pain after the first few runs in these trainers and was confused by my pain (I run every day and usually never hurt) and nearly canceled them. Luckily I didn’t – the pain was due to me running at a faster pace than I’m used to. I am now obsessed with the cushioning in these sneakers and wouldn’t hesitate to go back to my old running shoes.
The Deviate Nitro 2 also have excellent grip. I run rain or shine, so when I noticed the sticky traction of these shoes on wet leaves, I knew this was a great find. Not to mention, they’re breathable, fitted at the waist, and feature extra padding around the heel and collar that locks your foot in place to provide premium support and protection. I train better with these trainers – what more could you ask for?
What to Note About the Puma Deviate NITRO 2 Running Sneakers
I’ve read reviews of previous Deviate Nitro 2s, and while they received excellent ratings, the biggest customer complaints were the lack of padding around the heel and collar. With the Nitro 2s, they seemed to have fixed that issue, along with a few other small improvements, to make this shoe top notch. My only complaint (if you even consider one) is that the colorway I received in these sneakers doesn’t appear to be available on Puma’s website. This might have been a last minute change since the brand gave me a pair to test and try, but it’s worth noting if you’re interested in the color I personally own.
Who are the Puma Deviate NITRO 2 sneakers for?
The shoes are ideal for all types of runners and can be worn on long runs, short runs, and even tempo days. Their lightweight design is versatile, and if you’re the type of person who likes a quick run to start your day, these shoes are stylish enough to wear for more than just a workout, but wherever you go.
Are the Puma Deviate NITRO 2 running sneakers worth the splurge?
If you’re tired of running shoes that lack support and don’t provide enough traction, I’d say the Puma Deviate Nitro 2 are worth your while. Their price isn’t completely out of the question for a quality running shoe, but relative to the market, I’d say they could cost $30 less and be a bargain. Nonetheless, these shoes are a great buy and will impress those who run regularly.
