There are few seasons we are as eager to dress up as fall. From cozy sweaters to adorable hats, fall fashion trends consistently give us the most affordable and chic looks season after season. At the top of our list are, of course, fall shoes. Is it even fall if you haven’t put on your favorite slippers yet?
This season’s fall shoe trends are seeing a resurgence of looks we’ve seen in decades past, following the “what’s old is new” theme we’ve seen in the fashion world in recent months. To find out all that this season has to offer, we consulted a few experts: Mary Alice Malone, Creative Director of DuoBootsGionata Pagni, creative visionary for Franco Sartoand Vivien Hackenharr, design director for Zodiac.
Inspired by the West
Yes, you read that right, country style aficionado reader: cowboy boots are back and better than ever. “The western is the must-have trend of the season,” says Pagni. While many styles take cues from cowboy tailoring, there are plenty of options that are less ornate. With minimal seams, these boots mimic the shape of the classic cowboy boot, but not necessarily the entire look, making them an easier transitional piece. “Western boots are essential for exploring fall,” says Hackenhaar.
Riding boots
Boots? For fall? Innovative. We know, we know that boots are high on the list of fall fashion trends, but this year we’re seeing a resurgence of a few classic styles that have taken over the seats in recent years, one of between them being the riding boots. “This season we’re seeing classic riding styles make a resurgence alongside Western styles,” says Malone. “Clean lines and sturdy structures contrast with traditional pointed toes and rustic stitching.” Interestingly, western-inspired and riding boots both have roots in the riding world, so what can we say? Maybe this fall is girl riding season.
Clogs
They say that history repeats itself, fashion too. The iconic style of the 70s and 90s is back and better than ever. We’ve moved on to clogs in recent seasons (hello, our beloved Crocs), but fashion is taking a deep dive into style this season with shoes you might have found in your closet 20 years ago. Of course, if you’re Joanna Gaines, those bad boys never really went out of style.
Sneakers
If you’re looking for the perfect fall shoe for almost any everyday occasion, look no further than the sneaker. We’re not talking about the sneakers you wear to work out. The sneakers have had massive (and chic) upgrades over the past few years, and now you can see us wearing them anywhere from the ballpark to the office. Of course, it wouldn’t be a sneaker if comfort wasn’t part of the deal, which is the main reason we love this style.
