If your sneakers are extremely dirty but you don’t want to replace them, there are ways to get them back into shape, if not back to their fresh-out-of-the-shoebox glory days. But with the right tools and materials, you can get close. These are the best ways to restore and revitalize a pair of really gross kicks.

Use a corkscrew to remove mud from crevices

Before getting to the heart of the matter, start with the big picture: remove as much mud as possible. One of the best tools for cleaning mud from the bottom of your sneakers is a corkscrew. For canvas sneakers: youUse a toothbrush and a cleansing paste made from baking soda and warm water. Dip the toothbrush in the mixture and scrub the sneakers until they are clean. Let sneakers dry with cleaning mixture always on. Once dry, wipe away all that remains hardened baking soda deposits with a damp cloth.

Put baby powder or baking soda in it overnight
