Major League Soccer team Austin FC have teamed up with German sportswear giant Adidas to release an iteration of the classic Samba trainers. The club made its debut in the 2021 season, and over the past two years has gone from an expansion club to an MLS powerhouse.
The American Football Club qualified for the league playoffs in its second season and sold out every home game it played. The team’s incredible performance caught the eye of the three-stripes brand, who gave their ultra-popular Samba boots a special makeover in the team’s black and green color scheme.
The collaborative shoes were released on Adidas official e-commerce site, Verde Van (Austin official page) and MLS on September 29, 2022.

Austin FC recently clinched their first-ever playoff berth and now have a major inaugural footwear collaboration with the three-stripe label. On Thursday, German sportswear giant Adidas launched a custom green and black colorway for its signature Samba football trainers.
Although Austin FC has previously tied up with local brands such as Howler Brothers and No-Comply for a limited edition capsule collection, this is their first collaboration with Adidas. Los Verdes, an e-commerce store for Austin FC, led merchandise sales in 2021 during the team’s opening season.
In addition to marking its first collaborative shoe, Austin FC is also making history as the only club in MLB to participate in the latest batch of club-specific Samba sneakers.
Austin FC is the only North American team to be part of the Samba capsule. The other clubs are some of the strongest clubs in world football including Manchester United, Juventus, Argentina national team, etc. In an official press release, Austin FC midfielder Dani Pereira comments on the collaboration:
That Austin FC is the only club in North America to work with Adidas on this Samba collection is pretty cool. The club is always dropping merchandise collaborations and this one gives our fans a new way to represent the team during the playoffs.
The sneaker appears dressed in Oak’s signature Core Black/Real Green/Gum color scheme and offers a bold and bright look. The shoe is styled with classic details such as a gold foil midfoot stamp and custom tongue badge. Introducing the shoes, the official Adidas website writes:
“Show your support as your team takes root in top-flight football. The black and green colors of Austin FC appear on the smooth leather upper of these Samba Team boots. And if there’s any doubt about your allegiances on the pitch, a club badge takes pride of place on the tongue.”
Along with branding details, the trainers feature traditional Samba elements such as serrated three-Stripes and a T-toe. The look is completed with a synthetic lining and gum rubber outsoles.
The shoe was unveiled at a private event on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, where Otoko’s award-winning chef Yoshi Okai served the pair alongside traditional Japanese cuisine. One can get a pair from the official e-commerce site of Verde Van, Adidas and MLS for $100.
