Supreme and Nike have been collaborating for 20 years and have so far offered camo versions of the Air Max 96’s streamlined silhouette; a pair of SB Dunk Low Pros, which came with an all-over elephant print originally used on the Air Jordan III; Starry Dunk Highs and a mesmerizing Baroque Foamposite. Not to mention lots of matching clothes.

Now, the American duo have announced the next step in their relationship, which means another updated sneaker silhouette. Taking to Instagram today to announce the release, Supreme showed off a revamp of Nike’s Shox design, first introduced in 2000.

The original sneakers were designed by the brand’s footwear master, Bruce Kilgore, and feature a mechanical cushioning system in the back, inspired by the kind of things NASA astronauts would wear on their feet. The streamlined sneaker features two rocket booster pumps at the back. These compress slightly with wear and were introduced as an all-new version of Nike’s Air technology.

The Supreme design team took Nike’s Shox Ride 2, which came out in the early 2000s as a slight update to that OG design, and reintroduced it in four colorways. The sneakers now come in scarlet to match Supreme’s own signature branding, icy white, an all-black version, and a khaki version that features neon green Swooshes. The highlight for sneakerheads will come on the back of the shoes, where the chunky boosters have been printed with “Supreme” branding, which wraps around each circular pump.

Apparently, Nike is gearing up for 2022 to be the year of its Shox kicks. The Oregon-based label has a history of making a particular silhouette the product of its collabs and over the past few years we’ve seen the Dunk and Air Max 95 get a lot of airtime through collabs. with everyone from Ben and Jerry to Skepta.

Besides Supreme, British designer Martine Rose unveiled a collaborative pair of Shox during London Fashion Week last week. The sneakers feature an open mule-like back, which is a first for a closed-toe Nike shoe, as well as a sharper, more angular toe bed, which evokes the stiffness of Rose’s signature box-toe loafers.

The Supreme x Nike Shox Ride 2 is set to release this month, but as with their previous collaborative kicks, don’t expect them to stick around for long.
